This parka is exceptionally warm, comfortable and it has more features than any other parka I could find at a similar price. It's almost perfect. The only minor suggestions for improvement would be to change the closing mechanism of the exterior pockets from Velcro to snap or magnetic closures. The fabric of the wrist cuffs easily sticks to the Velcro when reaching inside the pocket. The second thing would be to change the orientation of the zipper on the internal pocket. The horizontal zipper is somewhat hard to close with only one hand because the inner lining isn’t rigidly anchored. The fabric must be held taut in order to close it. Overall, I'm very pleased and looking forward to sub-zero temperatures for many winters to come.
I can't say enough about my Arctic Bay winter parka! It's the warmest coat I've ever owned and the quality is superb! It's durable, yet light, warm and stylish at the same time. I have one that's just below the knee; I wanted that length because I wear lots of dresses instead of pants, so it keeps my legs warm. It's also water resistant and I find much of the time, cold is colder when it's wet and this coat completely sheilds me from the elements. The hood is nice and snug and deep enough to actually work properly- and it has fur trim! Also, I got an xs because I find that many winter coats just look bulky and this one is warm enough that I don't have to layer underneath and can, therefore, wear my acutal size and not feel frumpy and weighed down. This is something I will wear for years and years!!! Thank you so much!!!
Canadian winters are cold and I walk to work in the morning. In the dark. This year, I finally decided to stop being miserable in the AM and to buy a high-end parka. I found Arctic Bay online; never heard of the brand so was skeptical. To hedge my bets, I bought both the Antarctica and the Canada Goose Expedition. Ended up keeping the Antarctica and couldn't be happier.
Unfortunately, there isn't much research on this company/coat (I'm someone who wastes a ton of time on research and buy most things based on strong reviews) so hopefully this review will help someone who doesn't have the benefit of trying the coats first-hand.
Pros:
+ Warmest jacket I've ever owned
+ Everything on the jacket feels high quality
+ Customer service has been excellent (Long story short: I bought a Charlotte for the GF, it was damaged so exchanged it. Smooth process; customer service was very helpful during every step)
+ Wool outer shell is unique on heavier parkas. Personal preference, I think it looks great compared to Canada Goose jackets of similar quality. Most people in my office own a Canada Goose jacket and they were all equally impressed (I get a lot of compliments while wearing it)
+ Lined pockets limit the need for gloves
Cons:
- Relatively expensive
- Heavy
- Belt buckle can get in the way (I tuck it into one of the pockets)
- Heavy duty zipper can be difficult to use (on warmer days, I'll just stick with the buttons)
I was looking for a new winter jacket to replace my Canada Goose Expedition.
A friend of mine recommended a lesser known Arctic Bay brand. He had Alaska parka for a couple of years and was pretty happy with it. I decided to give it a shot, since shipping in Canada is free and returns are accepted, not much to risk. Nunavut parka looks kind of similar to Expedition, although a bit more expensive.
Never regretted my decision, new parka is great, plenty warm and looks good.
Quality seems to be at par or even better than Canada Goose. I am a happy customer.
